In 2007, SmartRiverside inaugurated the First Annual Charity Golf Tournament as the key fundraising event to continuously support and expand the umbrella of programs and services the non-profit organization offers. This first event, held on Columbus Day at the Oak Quarry Golf Club, had over 120 participants from all over the country. The event was also supported by 31 corporate sponsors, and 67 contributors from the greater Riverside area and over 30 volunteers from SmartRiveride and the City of Riverside. 

At this first tournament, there was a related fundraising event held in conjunction with the United Way.  Participants were asked to purchase a golf ball for $5 each.  The balls were then dropped from a police helicopter where the closest ball to the target received $1,000.  The closest golf ball was selected by Nicolas Zavala, who was the recipient of a brand new Dell computer from the SmartRiverside Digital Inclusion Program.  This event was held after the completion of the golf tournament and raised over $4,000 for the City of Riverside United Way campaign. 

Thanks to all the support from our contributors, sponsors, and volunteers we raised more than $27,000, which by all measures, was a huge success!  Our goal is to have this fundraiser support the ongoing operations of SmartRiverside in support of the residents of the City of Riverside.
